Who We Are

APIEM is a member of Affordable Medicines Europe, the association that represents the parallel medicine distribution industry at an European level.

The Portuguese Association of Importers and Exporters of Medicines (APIEM) represents wholesalers whose main activity is the international distribution of medicines, with the objective of contributing to the study and scientific, regulatory, technical and economic development of the Healthcare sector in Portugal, in permanent dialogue with the Public Authorities and the other partners in the medicines circuit.

We believe that the distribution of pharmaceutical products across different markets contributes decisively to the improvement of health indicators through the supply of medicines at lower costs, benefiting public and private health systems, payers, taxpayers, and above all, patients.

Mission and Activity
To inform associates and the public about developments related to the medicines circuit in Portugal and in the European Union.
To promote research and projects concerning the distribution of medicines with special focus on international trade.
Cooperate with other associations and public or private entities that have similar or related interests to our members
To represent and promote the common interests of our members and the industry in general before national, European, and international authorities.

Governance

According to APIEM’s Statutes, the Association’s governing bodies are mandated for two-year periods and are composed of the General Assembly, the Board of Directors and the Supervisory Board.

With the creation of APIEM, international wholesalers of medicines have a common platform where they can address issues that affect the sector. They have an active voice that defends them. Quoting Vinícius de Moraes, “no matter how long the journey, the most important thing is to take the first step". We, at APIEM, have taken the first step, and we count on everyone who can contribute and want to walk along with us.
